Privacy Policy
Effective 25 August 2026
1. Our approach
Mathumi collects and uses personal information so we can provide a personalised maths learning service to families. We aim to collect only information that is reasonably necessary, keep it secure, and use it for clear purposes connected with operating and improving Mathumi.
2. Information we collect
For parents or guardians, we may collect account details such as name, email address, login information, billing status and support communications. For learners, we may collect details such as first name, school year or learning level, assessment answers, accuracy, time taken, practice history, progress, identified gaps and pathway information.
3. Children and learner profiles
Learner profiles are created and managed under a parent or guardian account. Mathumi is intended to be used with parent or guardian involvement. Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring they have authority to provide learner information to us.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to create and secure accounts, assess learning needs, generate personalised pathways, track progress, provide parent reporting, process subscriptions, prevent fraud or misuse, troubleshoot issues, improve the service and communicate important service or billing information.
5. Automated learning decisions
Mathumi may use automated rules or algorithms to recommend questions, learning sequences or practice based on a learner’s performance. These recommendations are educational support tools and are not high-stakes decisions about admission, qualifications or access to essential services.
6. Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Mathumi does not need to store full card numbers or card security codes. Stripe may collect and process payment and billing information under its own privacy terms.
7. Service providers
We use trusted technology providers to run Mathumi, including hosting, database, authentication, payment and infrastructure services. This currently includes Vercel, Supabase and Stripe. These providers may process information on our behalf and may store or process information outside New Zealand.
8. Overseas processing
Because Mathumi uses cloud service providers, some personal information may be processed or stored in other countries. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and contractual or technical safeguards appropriate to the information involved.
9. Cookies and technical data
Mathumi may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for login sessions, security and core site functionality. We may also collect technical information such as browser type, device information, IP address, error logs and usage events to maintain and improve the service.
10. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purposes for which it was collected, to provide the service, maintain records, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations or protect against fraud and security incidents.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we restrict privileged access and use established providers for authentication, hosting and payment processing.
12. Access and correction
Under New Zealand privacy law, you may have the right to request access to personal information we hold about you and ask for it to be corrected. A parent or guardian may also contact us about information held in a learner profile they manage, subject to applicable law.
13. Account deletion
You may ask us to close your account and delete personal information that we are not required to retain. Some records may need to be kept for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes.
14. Privacy complaints
If you have a privacy concern, contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You may also have the right to raise a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Mathumi changes. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify affected users.
16. Contact
Privacy questions and access or correction requests can be raised through the contact details published on Mathumi or through the parent account support channel when available.
